Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. Some say it is the most wonderful time of the year. For many of us, we resonate with this statement. From the extended time with family, to the time off from work, to the gifts, to the most important thing–celebrating the birth and Life of Jesus, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.
Many of our friends at McWhorter Elementary School (the school Bent Tree adopted to serve back in 2005) unfortunately don’t share this reality. For them, Christmas is hard. Christmas reminds them of their broken families, financial struggles, unemployment or underemployment, lack of financial margin for gifts, etc. We want to help reframe the Christmas spirit for some of these families at McWhorter.
Working with their school counselor, we have selected 50 families to provide Christmas assistance this year. We have asked the families to provide a suggested gift item ($50 or less) and one most needed item for each child in their family (many of the families have multiple children). In addition, we are providing boxes filled with needed food items to assist over the Christmas break.
This is a great way to serve these families. If you are interested in serving with us and helping to reframe Christmas for our friends at McWhorter, please come to the table in the Lobby at Bent Tree on Dec 1, 8 and 15. You can also contact our Community Pastor for Local Missions, Robby Gordon, at email@example.com or (972) 428-1340 to help or ask any questions.
